Old World vs New World: The Great Wine Debate with Oz Clarke and Jancis Robinson
19/11/2019 7:00 pm – 19/11/2019 8:30 pm | Emmanuel Centre, 9-23 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3DW
Join our author and wine expert Oz Clarke (Oz Clarke Wine by the Glass, Oz Clarke Wine A-Z, The History of Wine in 100 Bottles) and Jancis Robinson for an evening of wine tasting and debating about the wines of the Old World and those produced in the New World.
France, Italy, Spain, Germany: these are the ancient Old World wine-growing regions of Europe, where continuity and history reign supreme. California, Australia, South Africa and Chile: these are some of the New World areas, where technology and science trump tradition. Old World wines tend to be light-bodied, with herbal, mineral and floral components. New World wines, thanks to warmer climates, are generally full-bodied, fruity and higher in alcohol. But which wines are the greater? To battle it out, Intelligence Squared is bringing together Oz Clarke and Jancis Robinson for this major debate.
Join them on November 19th and decide for yourself. Guests will be given two complimentary glasses of wine supplied by Waitrose — one from each territory — to taste. As they go head to head, Robinson and Clarke will talk their audience through the nuances of their chosen wine to persuade you which half of the world to vote for. The balanced elegance of the Old World? Or the bold verve and experimentalism of the New World?
When: Tuesday 19th November 2019, 7pm – 8.30pm
Where: Emmanuel Centre, 9-23 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3DW
